Contract law

Whether under Swiss or international law, our specialised translators admitted to the bar deliver legally secure, confidential and timely translations of contracts that you can rely on.

Our contract law services

We provide translations of contracts, general terms and conditions, and data protection documents that are accurate, legally secure and legally binding in the target language.

Legally binding contracts

For over fifteen years, Hieronymus has been translating contractual texts for law firms, banks and legal departments of large and medium-sized enterprises in Switzerland. A substantial part of our work consists in translating contracts, general terms and conditions, data protection policies, as well as banking documents and forms that are used as legally binding original documents in the target language. Our Senior Lawyer-Linguists clear up any ambiguities early on and make sure that each translation is linguistically correct, legally precise, and substantively faithful to the original, so that the translation has the same legal force as the source document.

All types of contract & terminology

We translate all types of contracts from ordinary employment contracts or leases on to general contractor agreements. Our translators are familiar with the specific contract terminology of property purchase contracts, shareholders' agreements, joint-venture agreements, banking contracts, financing and credit line agreements, derivatives contracts and license agreements. As needed, we can deliver translations that serve as original documents, or certified translations.

GTCs & data protection in multiple language versions

We specialise in translating General Terms and Conditions, as a rule, in multiple language versions. We perform a cross-check to ensure that all the language versions have matching content. We have extensive experience in translating terms and conditions for banks and insurance companies, the real estate and telecommunications industries, the watch industry, the retail trade and the food industry. We also translate data protection policies in strict compliance with the terminology of the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and the General Data Protection Regulation. For multilingual projects, editing is carried out by the same Senior Lawyer-Linguists wherever possible to ensure consistency across languages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who exactly will translate my legal documents?

Your documents are translated exclusively by our team of qualified specialised translators and Senior Lawyer-Linguists (translators admitted to the bar). This ensures that each translation meets the highest linguistic and legal standards. This means that all our translators have not only have native-level proficiency but also extensive experience in legal translation. They are well-versed in the legal terminology of the relevant legal systems and familiar with the subtle nuances in meaning in legal texts. In addition, all our specialised translators and Senior Lawyer-Linguists have in-depth knowledge of Swiss law and the terminology and specificities of the Swiss legal environment. We entrust your project to translators with specific expertise in the relevant specialisation, whether corporate, banking, or insurance law or another field.

How do you ensure the confidentiality of our sensitive documents?

As a Swiss company, we are subject to the Federal Act on Data Protection of 25 September 2020 (FADP) and its implementing ordinances. All data is stored on secure end-to-end encrypted servers located exclusively in Switzerland. Our entire team signs strict non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to ensure absolute discretion and is subject to strict data protection and security guidelines.

What does your compliance with ISO 17100-processes mean for my project?

The compliance of our workflow with the internationally recognised ISO 17100 standard ensures a clearly structured, smooth-running and verified process. For you, this means top quality, traceability and reliability for the translation of your legal documents. The standard stipulates, among other things, that each translation must be reviewed by second equally qualified legal translator (the so-called “four-eyes principle”). This double-review process ensures that the final product always meets the highest standards, with proper terminology, style, consistency, and legal accuracy. Thanks to this rigorous quality assurance phase, errors are systematically eliminated and the text is scrutinised down to the finest nuance. This process ensures the optimal accuracy and reliability of our translations: these are decisive factors for legal documents, where precision is indispensable.

Can you meet extremely urgent deadlines?

Please contact us in case you need an urgent translation so that we can look into your request. Depending on the availability of our translation team, we may be able to meet even very tight deadlines, in which case we always make sure that the translation will meet strictest quality standards. We would be happy to send you a quote.

What is a certified translation and when do I need one?

A certified translation contains an official certification from Hieronymus accompanied by a company stamp and signature confirming the accuracy and completeness of the translation and can be notarised. As a rule, you need a certified translation for all documents submitted to a court, a public body or a government agency (e.g. commercial register, commercial registry, migration offices) within Switzerland.

How is the price calculated for a legal translation?

The pricing is transparent and based on several factors, mainly the number of characters, including spaces, in the source text, a so-called standard page (a Swiss standard). The final cost may also depend on the language combination, the complexity of the legal terminology, the requested delivery date, any desired certifications or apostilles. Or any additional services, such as complex conversions or alignments of reference documents. For a specific non-binding offer, we advise you to send us your document by e-mail to translations@hieronymus.ch or submit it via our secure portal.
